I'm all hopped up on hazy IPA's lately. This one is from Brooklyn's craft brewery Threes Brewing in Gowanus. They specialize in hop forward American ales and lagers along with mixed culture beers. They have a tap room in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, an event space and bar in Greenpoint, and a summer beer garden on Governors Island. The hop profile consists of Citra, Simcoe, and Mosiac. German Pilsner, German Malted Wheat, and American Wheat Flakes fill out the grain and malt ingredients. Using this unique combination of German-American inspired ingredients they create a stellar hoppy and hazy IPA that is available all year round. It hovers just on the line of fruity but stays pure to the wheat tasting notes with just subtle peach tones. In the late 1800's Brooklyn was home to one of the largest concentrations of breweries in the country. Bushwick, Brooklyn specifically was home to a massive German community and was itself home to 14 breweries known as Brewery Row. In fact Brooklyn was responsible for producing about 10% of all the beer sold in the country at the turn of the 20th Century. In 1976, the last of Brooklyn's breweries closed their doors (Rheingold and Schaefer) and Brooklyn was left dormant for almost 20 years until the revival in the Mid 90's. Over the last few years, the renegade team at Kings County Brewers Collective (The Borough of Brooklyn is official Kings County, New York for one that is not paying attention).
